Murchison Falls is Uganda's largest and one of its most spectacular national parks. Its namesake waterfall, where the Victoria Nile is forced through a gap just seven metres wide before crashing 43 metres down, is a genuinely awe-inspiring sight.
A boat cruise to the base of the falls passes hippos, crocodiles, elephants and waterbirds along the riverbanks. Game drives on the northern plains deliver lions, giraffes, buffalo, and antelope, with leopards and hyenas for the lucky.
The park combines well with a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary en route — currently the only place in Uganda to see wild rhinos, completing the Big Five.
